Black Hill Regional Park Snaps

On the way to run errands this afternoon I drove through our local regional park and took photos of Little Seneca Lake. Later at Borders a nice lady gave me some fresh Catoctin Mountain peaches from her basket - what a treat!

"Socks" - an Original

While shopping at Whole Foods I saw this lady and the visual impact was immediate. I felt like a bee irresistably drawn to pollen. I knew I had to meet her.

I walked up to her, introduced myself and immediately commented on the uniqueness of her socks. She said her now deceased husband gave her a pair of socks from Greece when they were there on their first overseas vacation many years ago. She said people have been giving her unique socks ever since and that she now has over 200 pairs. "And do you know what people call me, she said (I had not asked her name.)? Socks!" Socks, one unique lady with unique energy wearing unique socks. As best I can tell she is one of "the beautiful people" who roam the earth.

Sugarloaf Mountain Pix

The iPhone camera, which lacks a zoom, just doesn't do justice to the elevation of Sugarloaf Mt. even from this distance and in contrast to the trees in the foreground - it looks much higher live even from here. Sugarloaf (1282 feet above sea level.) is near Barnesville, Maryland, a 30 minute drive from my home. It reminds me of Mt. Ranier in how it rises up from relatively flat land.

Funny People (Official Trailer)

I've mostly stopped going to theaters to watch movies but this movie, "Funny People," is filled with intelligence, humor and poignancy and may get me in a theater and quick (and I'm not even a big Adam Sandler fan).

Postscript 11.29.2009: This movie was released and I rented it. I stopped watching it half way through as there was too much reference to sex and genital humor. I don't think I'm a prude in any sense of the word but it was too much.

Lifestream Information Flow Schematic

Given the ability of social media services to "push" your information to other media services one uses, I recently found myself confused about how all of it hung together in my case. To clarify I drew this schematic.

Thanks to Steve Rubel for the idea of pushing lifestream information from a single point of origin that is always available (via mobile device, e.g. iPhone), in my case LifeSprings, my lifestreaming hub here at Posterous. Here is what my current configuration flow looks like visually - as best as I can tell : )   LinkedIn not included.

Centering Prayer at the Dayspring Retreat Center

Tonight, as I have for 9 years, I made my way after work on Monday night to the Dayspring Retreat Center in Germantown Maryland to attend a one-hour centering prayer group that I co-lead. Centering prayer is a type of silent, meditative, nonverbal, nonconceptual prayer practice with origins in the early centuries of the Christian contemplative tradition.

Note on photos:The first structure is of the sleeping quarters at Dayspring and the other, a few yards away, is the space for meetings and meals. The view of the open meadow is from the front porch of the latter.
